British Transport Police and Kent Police spotted with sniffer dog in Sheerness town centre

Police have been spotted with a sniffer dog in Sheerness town centre.

Officers from the British Transport Police and Kent Police were seen in Beach Street, off the High Street, at about 11.30am.

Officers were seen combing through Beach Street, off Sheerness High Street, with a sniffer dog

Two officers and a sniffer dog were searching the same street shortly after.

There were reports of police checking bags with a scanner at Sheerness Railway Station in Bridge Road.

It was also said multiple officers were in the Belle and Lion beer garden.

One witness, who did not want to be named, said: "About five minutes ago I saw a policewoman run past.

"The cars didn't have sirens going. We didn't hear anything and they've sneaked up on us."

The British Transport Police and Kent Police were sent to the residential road off Sheerness High Street

A British Transport Police spokesman said: "We had an operation at Sheerness Railway Station this morning targeting drugs and knife crime."
