Sheerness RNLI called to yacht struggling with wind near Garrison Point in the Thames Estuary, near Sheerness

Two people had to be rescued by a lifeboat crew after running into strong winds.

The Sheerness RNLI all-weather lifeboat, The George and Ivy Swanson, was sent to help the 10ft yacht last night at about 6pm.

The vessel was reporting problems with battling the wind and trouble with the tide near Garrison Point in the Thames Estuary, near Sheerness.

A crew of six volunteers arrived at about 6.20pm and started to tow the yacht away to safety.

It was taken to the Queenborough all-tide landing where it was secured at about 7.25pm.

The crew had returned to the base by 7.45pm.
