Two separate crashes caused major delays on the A249 tonight.

Traffic heading southbound was backed up all the way to the Bobbing turn-off after a two-car collision blocked a lane near the Stockbury Roundabout.

It happened at around 4.40pm and police were called to the scene.

At one stage travel time was said to be around 30 minutes and Highways England confirmed the road did not become clear until after 9pm.

Meanwhile, a two-vehicle crash northbound near the Iwade turn-off blocked part of the carriageway, leading to long queues for motorists heading towards Sheppey.
