A vintage-loving grandma from Tenterden is set to feature on a popular TV antiques show today.

Christine Thompson, the former manager of the Pilgrims Hospice shop in Tenterden High Street and her volunteer Gillian Williams will appear on the BBC One's Bargain Hunt.

The pair's interest in the show grew as one of the programme's presenters, Raj Bisram, who is the director of Bentleys Antiques in Cranbrook, used to pop into the shop.

Christine, 64, said: "I'd always wanted to do the show if I'm honest.

"Gillian and I had to send in a tape of us and do two auditions online but we were accepted instantly."

Bargain Hunt sees treasure-hunting pairs divided into red and blue teams, who scour antiques fairs in search of three items likely to fetch the best price at auction, with the winners being the team that makes the most profit when the hammer goes down on the lots.

Christine, who lives in Tenterden and Gillian, 59, who is from Woodchurch, did their search at Detling antiques, vintage and collectors fair, where Raj helped them make their finds.

"Gillian really knows her stuff and we were constantly discussing the antiques and bickering over them, which you will be able to see on the programme," said Christine.

Filming took place in September and antiques were put on sale at Canterbury Auction Galleries on October 1, where the pair pledged to donate any profits made to Pilgrims Hospices.

"All our customers at the shop were so excited about us being on TV and kept asking us what we bought but we're not allowed to say and they will have to watch the programme."

The episode of Bargain Hunt featuring the pair will be aired on BBC One today at 12.15pm.
