Firefighters have tackled a fire that broke out in a corn field near the Kent coast - causing smoke to billow onto a nearby beach.

Fire crews were called to the blaze near Joss Bay, in Broadstairs, just before 1.30pm on Wednesday.

The fire is believed to have started in a field off Elmwood Avenue, which leads from the town to Joss Bay.

A KentOnline reporter who was at the scene reported seeing smoke blowing down to the beach, while on the seafront a number of onlookers stood by watching.

Four fire engines were sent to the scene, where firefighters worked to bring the flames and smoke under control.
