A family got a surprise when they spotted a rare white squirrel.

Paul and Claire Kennedy were visiting Margate Cemetery this afternoon with their sons, Matthew, 10 months, and Thomas, three.

They were busy throwing nuts on the ground for the resident squirrels when the white one appeared.

Paul, who works for Saga Insurance, said they were surprised as they'd never seen one before.

"It just appeared as Thomas was putting nuts on the ground and moved towards us," he said.

The young boys were very taken with the creature with relatives telling Paul only one in 100,000 squirrels are born white.

Although rare, KentOnline is regularly contacted by readers who spot the animals around the county.
