The Hindu festival of Ganesh Utsav has been celebrated in Tunbridge Wells - it is believed for the first time.

The 10-day festival celebrating the arrival of Lord Ganesha on earth is widely observed across India, and last weekend Saloni Shukla and her husband Ash hosted a festival in the garden of their home in Yew Tree Road.

Mrs Shukla said: "Around 150 people came over the weekend and worshipped at an idol of Lord Ganesha which was handmade by a local resident.

"It was an opportunity for everyone to dress in colourful traditional Indian outfits, saris and kurtas.

"The festival usually lasts for 10 days - and some people are still calling around in the evenings."
