A man has been charged in connection with spitting in a woman’s face in Tunbridge Wells after she asked a stranger to keep a social distance.

Reports say at around midday on October 11, the victim was in Victoria Road when she asked a man to move away as she felt he was walking too close.

It is alleged the suspect responded by insulting her and throwing the contents of a beer can at her, before spitting in her face and on her clothing.

Kent Police issued a media appeal for information and following this Paul Greaves, aged 52, of Willington Street, Maidstone was arrested.

He was later charged with assault and bailed to appear before Sevenoaks Magistrates’ Court on April 1.
