A Headcorn man arrested after a woman was tied up for more than 48 hours following a burglary at her home has been released without charge, police have confirmed.

The victim, who is in her 60s, was tied up, repeatedly punched, cut with a knife and had a bottle of alcohol poured over her during the incident, in an area near Maidstone, on April 4.

Billy Williams, 28, of Smarden Road, Ashford, was charged with aggravated burglary and appeared at court in April.

Police also arrested a different man, aged 29, from Headcorn, on April 16 in connection with the aggravated burglary.

His bail ended yesterday and police have confirmed that he has been released without charge.

The victim was approached outside her house by a cyclist who asked for water.

When she returned he leapt over her fence, bundled her inside the house and restrained her before £100 and other valuables were stolen.

During the ordeal she was attacked, with a bottle of alcohol poured over her head.

Police found her bound hand and foot, and gagged, two days later. She had been left with no food or water.

She was taken to hospital and has since been discharged.
