The man behind Oasis is backing a Kent festival celebrating VWs which will raise money for a homeless charity.

Former Oasis guru Alan McGee, who now manages bands including the Jesus & Mary Chain, Black Grape, Happy Mondays and Cast, has praised organisers of the Kent VW festival, which is this year part of a campaign by Musicians Against Homelessness to raise funds for homeless charity Crisis.

Now in its eighth year, the festival celebrates VW vehicles, while having a skool disco fancy dress theme on the Saturday night, and offering live music as well as free children's activities.

This year's event, which will be held at Coldred near Dover from Friday, August 2 to Sunday, August 4, features 90s favourites Toploader and DJ Adamski.

Alan said: "The support from Kent VW Festival is tremendous and inspiring, and it’s fantastic that so many quality bands will perform. Although our primary concern is to combat the scourge of homelessness it is vital that the MAH gigs also give talented artists a chance to play to larger audiences.”

Festival organiser Dee Parkinson said: "We’re proud to partner and support MAH this year, and together aim to make this the biggest and best festival we’ve staged to date."

There will be classic and new VWs, a fun fair and auto jumble, plus food and trade stalls plus free children's activities.
