Changeling Theatre have announced the programme for this year’s summer tour, including two spectacular outdoor productions.

The Kent-based theatre company has confirmed that they will be performing William Shakespeare’s Othello and Oscar Wilde’s The Importance of Being Earnest at outdoor venues across the county this summer.

Starting on Friday, July 1 at Boughton Monchelsea Place, near Maidstone, the company will perform at more than 25 venues in and around the county, including Great Comp, Penshurst Place, Rochester Castle and Walmer Castle, until Sunday, August 21.

“Mention the Changeling Theatre to me and my eyes light up,” says Councillor Fay Gooch, Mayor of Maidstone. “I just can’t wait to see what they have in store for Maidstone audiences [this] summer.

“How incredibly fortunate we are that so much talent is based here in the County Town of Kent where the people of Maidstone can savour the truly joyful experience of outdoor theatre at its best: fresh air and fun - just what we all need to give our wellbeing a boost!”

These stunning venues will be the backdrop for the company’s two productions throughout the summer.

Othello, chosen by the audience vote last year, is a Shakesperian thriller full of intrigue and dark humour, while The Importance of Being Earnest is a farcical comedy mocking Victorian sensibilities.

Changeling Theatre credits this year’s productions, in part, to those who donated to the company via an online crowdfunding campaign. The money raised has helped the company cover costs for this summer’s tour.

Visitors are welcome to bring picnic blankets, a bottle of bubbly and plenty of snacks as they sit back, relax and enjoy a unique outdoor experience.

Changeling Theatre’s summer tour takes place from Friday, July 1 to Sunday, August 21. Tickets are on sale now. Book online here.
