Mystery man threw £1,500 off Park Mall shopping centre roof, in Ashford

A red-faced Ashford man said he feels "so stupid" after discovering he had been tricked by a friend he believed launched hundreds of pounds off a roof.

Shoppers thought Christmas had come early in Ashford this weekend when a mystery man threw £1,500 from Park Mall shopping centre rooftop.

But the camera man has now admitted he had been duped by his friend who had actually thrown fake notes.

The anonymous trickster, originally dubbed "Mr Nice", launched the wad of '£10 notes' off the rooftop on Saturday morning.

The unbelievable act was filmed by Paul Ryan, and the video shows shoppers staring at the floating money in disbelief before rushing towards the fallen notes.

But Mr Ryan said his friend has eventually admitted the stunt had been set up and the money wasn't real.

He said: "I didn't know they were fake! He showed me the cash before he did it but he must have switched it.

"I know he has the cash to do it so I believed him but now I feel so stupid, especially after all these nice comments from people.

"I rang him up to tell him what people were saying and he told me it wasn't real.

"He said he just did it for laugh but I could murder him!"
