Wallaby spotted by driver on road between Bethersden and Ashford

Strewth! A driver had to ask himself if he was going hopping mad after he spotted a wallaby on the other side of the road.

Steve Peters was driving on the A28 between the village of Bethersden and Ashford at 11.30am today.

The small marsupial from Down Under is a relative of the kangaroo, but is smaller and about the size of a dog.

Mr Peters said: "As I was driving along, I passed Smelly Farm and then on the other side of the road, hopping along, was a wallaby going towards Bethersden.

"I don't drink or take drugs, and I'm not mad, hopping or otherwise, but it was a small brown wallaby the size of a dog."

The wallaby may have come from The Reindeer Centre, which keeps creatures including wallabies and is located about a mile north of the village of Bethersden. The centre has been contacted for comment by Kent Online.
