Ashford racer Leon Camier has been given the all-clear to compete at the World Superbike round at Donington Park this weekend.

The 24-year old Aprilia rider, pictured, has overcome the glandular fever that struck ahead of the opening round one month ago.

The former British champion put in arguably the ride of his career at Australia’s Phillip Island circuit four weeks ago, moving up from 16th to sixth despite his symptoms.

Camier said: "The lead up to race day was pretty bad. I struggled in every session with dizziness and breathlessness. I actually felt worst in the first race. In the second race I managed to get into a good rhythm."

Since returning home to Andorra, further tests have confirmed that the glandular fever has gone but Camier has had to observe a strict recovery programme.

He said: "I feel fine now, I’ve been ordered to rest and relax for the past couple of weeks to allow my body to recover.

"I have to be careful that I don’t overdo it and cause more long-term damage, but I’ll definitely be racing at Donington Park and hopefully do a good job for the British fans."
