Crash near Drovers Roundabout causing delays on M20 near Ashford

A man was seriously injured and had to be cut free from his vehicle after a road crash.

The victim was driven to hospital and traffic was diverted late into the morning.

Emergency services were called at about 4.40am today after the accident happened on a slip road of Junction 9 of the M20 in Ashford.

A spokesman for South East Coast Ambulance Service said: "Ambulance crews, including our hazardous area response team, attended the scene.

" One patient was assessed and treated for serious injuries before being taken by road to Kings College Hospital in London."

Kent Fire and Rescue Service explained that the crash involved one vehicle.

A spokesman said: "Two fire engines attended and crews used hydraulic cutting equipment to release one casualty, who was passed into the care of paramedics."

The exit from Ashford's Drovers Roundabout towards the motorway junction was shut.

Kent County Council's highways department warned rush hour drivers about this earlier in the morning, saying: "The road is expected to remain closed for some time."

A Kent Police spokesman said late this morning: "Diversions are in place while investigations are ongoing at the scene."
