Residents attempted to put out the fire prior to the firefighters arrival.

Crews extinguished the blaze using a hose reel jet and beaters.

Charlie Smith, Kent Fire and Rescue Community Safety Manager said: “Incidents of this type can be very unpredictable and grass fires can quickly spread out of control.

"We would always advise members of the public not to put themselves at risk by tackling the fire themselves.

"Instead, we would advise people to call 999, giving as much detail on the location of the fire as possible, and to take themselves out of harms way as soon as possible.”
