Fly-tippers hit two more spots in Ashford

Two more rural spots in Ashford have been targeted by fly-tippers.

The latest eyesore comes after discarded debris closed off Cheeseman’s Green Lane last week.

One site to be targeted was land near Homelands football stadium, along Ashford Road, Kingsnorth, where a mountain of electrical appliances and building materials including concrete and bricks was dumped at the foot of the car park.

Household items, including fridges and chairs, were also spotted amongst the clutter dumped at the site. It is believed to have been there since last Friday.

Locals also noticed some of the rubbish looked blackened, indicating there may have been an attempt to burn it.

The second known incident of fly-tipping in the town this week was along Blackwall Road in Wye.

A vast haul of household debris - including a mattress, a table, wooden furniture and several bin bags - had been dumped along the country lane.

Ted Prangnell from Kennington, who spotted the items, said: “The Blackwall Road is part of the National Cycle Route to Canterbury.

“It is not the first time I have come across litter and fly-tipping in that area. The swines have no respect or love for this country."

A Kent Highways spokesman said: “Fly-tipping is a criminal offence and should not be tolerated.

“However, from 2015 the statutory power to clear, investigate and prosecute incidents of fly-tipping became a district/borough responsibility - our only involvement is if fly-tipping is on KCC land or on the roads.

“It may be that the fly-tipping is on private land, if so the removal is the responsibility of the land owner.”
