Friends Michael Flue, from Singleton, and Guy Pettit, from Rochester, to drive from Ashford to Marrakech in five days in aid of Demelza

Two friends dressed as Wally from Where’s Wally will set off on a 2,000 mile challenge across Europe and Africa today.

Michael Flue, 29, from Singleton, Ashford, and Guy Pettit, 30, from Rochester, are taking on the Boom Banger Rally Marrakech Express in aid of Demelza House.

They will do so in an 1989 Ford Escort, which they have decorated to match their There’s Wally theme.

The route will see them leave Dover today and take them through France and over the Pyrenees mountain range into Spain.

From there, they will aim to make it down the east coast to Gibraltar and across the water into Africa.

Guy, who runs Kent-based motor racing team XLR Motorsport, said: “The idea all came about one evening over dinner last year.

"It seemed like a fantastic alternative to a traditional holiday and an ideal opportunity to raise money for Demelza Hospice Care for Children.

“I am hoping between us we can get the car all the way to Marrakech."

It will take the duo five days to reach Marrakech, and they will sleep in hotels along the way.

They will be met by their partners on Thursday, when they arrive. They will then fly home.

Michael, a mechanic, said: “Our partners had already come up with their own idea of dressing ourselves and the car up in Where’s Wally outfits.

"It seemed only right that we poke fun at ourselves and name our team There’s Wally if it was in aid of good causes.”

Michael and Guy are raising funds for Demelza Hospice Care for Children, which cares for life limited children and their families, offering respite breaks, end of life care and bereavement support.
