A suspected illegal immigrant has been taken to Dover Immigration Removal Centre after being found near an Ashford supermarket.

Police swooped close to the Tesco Crooksfoot Extra in Hythe Road, Willesborough, at about 2pm and detained the man.

It is believed officers were called after a man was spotted jumping out of a lorry close to the store's Click and Collect point, where customers pick up items they have ordered online.

Police spokesman Lisa Humphries said: "The police presence near Tesco is related to a call about a possible illegal immigrant.

"We have detained a man and are taking him to the Dover Immigration Centre."

No one from Tesco was available for comment.
