Inquiry to be held into Green arrest

MPs are to carry out an inquiry into the arrest of Tory frontbencher and Ashford MP Damian Green.

A panel of eight senior MPs will examine the treatment of Mr Green and how police were allowed to search his Commons office without a warrant.

The row led to Speaker Michael Martin effectively being forced out. He said he would "give any evidence required".

The Kentish Express recently revealed how the costs of the Metropolitan Police investigation had left taxpayers with a bill for £109,000.
