Traffic on the M20 is being held up after a car overturned.

Both carriageways of the M20 have reopened after it was closed earlier following a crash.

Both sections of the motorway were closed between Junction 9 at Ashford to Junction 8 while an air ambulance landed.

The air-bourne crew was called to assist an ambulance crew that was treating a woman who has since been taken to hospital.

Motorist Sarah Dickenson tweeted, describing it as a "serious collision" that she missed by just 30 seconds.

She said there were three fire engines, two police vehicles, three ambulances, an air ambulance, a fire car, a blood transfusion motorbike and more traffic officers.

A Kent Police spokesman said: "Police were called at around 6pm regarding a report that a car had overturned on the Londonbound carriageway of the M20 between junctions 9 and 8.

"Officers and South East Coast Ambulance Service attended the scene where a woman was treated for injuries and was taken to a local hospital for further medical attention.

"Both carriageways were closed while emergency services dealt with the incident"

The coastbound carriageway reopened first and the London-bound lanes remained closed while the vehicle was recovered.
