Man and woman remanded in custody after heroin worth £1.5m seized at Channel Tunnel

A man and woman have been remanded in custody after 30 kilos of heroin worth £1.5m was seized at the Channel Tunnel.

The drugs were discovered on Sunday when Border Force officers stopped a Dutch-registered car at the Channel Tunnel entrance in Coquelles, France.

The drugs were said to have been hidden behind the dashboard.

Debora Daatzelaar and Paul Van Rijn , both 49 and from the Netherlands, appeared at Canterbury Magistrates Court yesterday charged with the attempted importation.

They were remanded in custody and will next appear at Canterbury Crown Court on September 16.
