A hearing centreis calling on people to protect their ears ahead of a fireworks celebration tonight.

Specsavers hearing centre is calling on people to consider their hearing ahead of a weekend of Guy Fawkes celebrations across the borough.

They are particularly warning visitors, especially children, to the Biddenden Blaze bonfire night celebrations and carnival taking place from 5pm this evening.

Fireworks can be as loud as 145-150 decibels, which is the same noise level as a jumbo jet taking off.

Karen Perry, hearing aid audiologist at Specsavers in Ashford, said: "We want people to enjoy themselves at the event but they should be aware that fireworks can be extremely loud and could cause damage with prolonged exposure.

"To help protect the hearing of the residents of Ashford we will be handing out free disposable ear plugs in store for the first twenty people to use on the night.

"If anyone is concerned about their hearing, we are offering free three-minute hearing screenings in store and this check provides an indication of whether someone has a hearing loss."

If you are concerned about your hearing, call Specsavers Ashford on calling01233 629999or visit the store at36 County Square, Ashford.
