Man killed in crash along A28 in Wye named locally as Sam Higgins

A man killed in a head-on horror crash has been named locally as 23-year-old Sam Higgins.

The two-vehicle smash took place in the early hours of yesterday morning along the A28 in Wye.

Mr Higgins, from Ashford, died at the scene of the accident.

A second driver, a 37-year-old man, also from Ashford, was seriously injured in the collision and taken to hospital with a suspected broken leg.

The accident happened at 2.20am when, for unknown reasons, the 23-year-old, who was travelling from Ashford to Canterbury, lost control of his red Peugeot.

He collided with a blue BMW travelling in the opposite direction.

The road was closed until 10.25am while a forensic examination was carried out and the debris was cleared.

Tributes to the young man have poured in following his death.

Kellie Moon said: "I'll never forget you - one of the kindest people I have ever met. Always in my heart. RIP Sammy Boi."

Benn Cafc Phillips said: "RIP cuz. Couldn't believe it when I heard the news."

Liam French said: "Rest in peace much love bro."

Police have launched an appeal for witnesses to the crash.
