Road collapses outside William Harvey Hospital in Ashford

Hospital users are being warned of travel disruption after approach road collapsed and has been described as 'sinking.'

The damage appeared outside the Willesborough hospital last night and staff were made aware this morning.

Stagecoach tweeted a warning to passengers that they would be unable to enter the hospital grounds because the road is 'sinking'.

Bus users were told they would need to walk up the hill from Kennington Road.

Matthew Maytum, communications officer for Stagecoach, said: "We were informed about this from the Hospital grounds staff this morning.

"The ground near the sinkhole is now unstable and we agreed that temporary bus stops would be placed outside the hospital.

"Notices are in Bank Street, and the hospital informing passengers.

"We understand there is a workforce coming to assess the damage today, In the meantime our buses will continue to serve the temporary stops on Kennington Road."

A spokesman for the East Kent Hospitals University NHS Foundation Trust, which runs the hospital, insisted the hole hadn't blocked all access to the site.

She said: "There is slight damage which needs to be repaired and we are working on getting somebody out as soon as possible.

"But it is not preventing people from entering or leaving the hospital."
