AN EVENT being held at the Julie Rose Stadium in Ashford this summer aims to raise the profile of mobility and motability issues for the disabled in all walks of life.

The second Celebration of Wheels day will be held on Saturday, July 2, and will feature demonstrations and a chance to try out a variety of disabled sports.

Already there has been a good response from exhibitors and groups wanting to take part.

The event is being organised by the Kent Disability Sports unit with support from the Kent Wheelchair User Group and local sports development officers.

Last year the day attracted more than 30 exhibitors and Allen Jones from the Kent Wheelchair Users Group says this year there will be more commercial and volunteer exhibitors taking over the stadium.

Commerical exhibitors will be based in the Indoor shuttle shute and there will also be an information zone.

Entry for the public is likely to be free and the idea is to inform all ranges of people with mobility problems of what is available to help and assit them as well as what is available for sport and recreation.

On show will be demonatrations from athletics, cycling, wheelcahir fencing and basketball, zone wheelchair hockey and Boccia, a form of bowls. There will also be coaching and a game from the new Ashford disabled football team the Invicta Valiants.

Volunteers are still needed to assist on the day in the organisation and anyone interested in the event or can help is asked to contact Mike Bishop, at the Kent Disability Sports Development Office on 01732 525389, or Jennie Parker at 01233 330232. Exhibitors are asked to contact Allen Jones on 01303 226500.
