Candle-lit ceremony in Ashford's Memorial Gardens for families to remember lost babies

A special candle-lit vigil was held at Ashford's Memorial Gardens to remember babies who have died.

Parents and relatives gathered at the new baby memorial garden, created by Emma Oram and her fellow volunteers from the charity SANDS.

The garden features 70 stones bearing the name of 85 babies, which surround a central mosaic design of the charity’s logo.

Families joined together to take part in the ceremony, held to mark International Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day, which saw candles simultaneously lit across the world, creating a ‘wave of light’.

Poems and readings were then given at the Ashford memorial, and the name of all 85 children who died were read out.
