Lisa Dobriskey has suffered more heartache on the eve of a major championships after being ruled out of next month’s World Championships in Moscow through injury.

The 29-year-old New Romney ace stepped off the track 600m into a tough 1,500m at the British Championships at Birmingham on Sunday in clear discomfort.

Scans revealed a muscle-tear which will leave her using crutches for the next month and brought her season to a premature close.

Former Southlands School pupil Dobriskey – who won World Championship silver in the 1,500m in Berlin in 2009 before an 11th-place finish in Daegu two years ago – thanked well-wishers for their support using twitter.

She said: “Sadly the scan picked up a grade 3 tear so I have no choice but to end my season here. I’m overwhelmed by all the messages of support. Thankyou so much. I have six weeks on crutches.”

Last year Dobriskey won a race to be fit for the London 2012 Olympics after overcoming a hip injury and then battling blood clots on her lungs.

She eventually finished 10th in the final, having been an agonising fourth in Beijing four years earlier.
