Neil Cugley completed his fourth summer signing this week with the capture of prolific striker Steve Harper as his Folkestone Invicta squad continues to take on a new look.

The 31-year-old arrives from Bognor Regis as defender Liam Dickson departs, following a job move to the North East, as the changing of the guard continues at Cheriton Road.

A transfer target for Cugley in the past, Harper offers another experienced attacking option, following the return of Stuart King and player/assistant manager Simon Austin.

Cugley said: “I tried to sign him a few years ago. He has got a good physique and a good pedigree in terms of games and goals.

“I see him as being a great help to our younger forwards Dane Luchford and Johan Ter Horst.”

Harper is unlikely to be available for every game due to business commitments but Cugley is relaxed about the situation, adding: “It is not a major worry.” Left-back Dickson, 24, has followed Darren Smith and Jack Delo out of the club after making more than 200 first-team appearances.

Cugley said: “It is the end of an era. All these boys have been together for four or five years and are all good lads.

“Liam is a great competitor and played well for me last season.”

Cugley has cover for Dickson but is looking at another player. Harper is set to face Ashford in Invicta’s first friendly at Homelands on Saturday when Jimmy Dryden will also be involved.
