Bethersden rider Tom Jackson included in British Equestrian Federation’s World Class Development Programme

Tom Jackson says his inclusion in the British Equestrian Federation’s World Class Development Programme is a massive boost as he bids to have another successful year.

The 21-year-old Bethersden rider is one of 17 eventers selected in a total intake of 49, one of the largest since the UK Sport National Lottery funded two-year scheme began in 2002.

The programme provides coaching and support, including human and equine sports science, nutrition and sports psychology.

Jackson described last season as his best ever, the highlights being helping Great Britain to win a team bronze in the European Young Riders Championship in Portugal last September, and winning the under-25 championship at Bramham.

He rubbed shoulders with the sport’s great and the good when he and the rest of the team received their medals at the traditional pre-Christmas event at Olympia last month.

He said: “The whole selection process involved five or six stages, finishing with a selection weekend and an interview.

“It’s massive for me and is an all-round package designed to help give us the best possible advantage.”
