Bexley are the Kent League Premier Division frontrunners after they narrowly won away to fourth-placed St Lawrence & Highland Court on Saturday.

Calum Basey’s 56-ball 62 guided the away side to 253-8 from their 50-over allocation while Oliver Curtiss (3-33) and Australian overseas Jack Heuston (2-44) got among the wickets for St Lawrence.

Newly-appointed Kent red-ball captain Jack Leaning played for the hosts but was out for just 19 and, despite half-centuries from Will Hilton (55) and John Grewar (50), they could only make 230-9 in reply as they suffer back-to-back defeats.

Harry Dowling’s 3-47 saw him finish with Bexley’s best figures. For them, it’s now three league triumphs on the spin.

Just two points separate second-placed Tunbridge Wells and Lordswood, in third, after the latter won a rain-affected game by 93 runs.

A 78-ball 86 by Joe Gordon led the way. He put on 121 alongside skipper Calum MacLeod (44) in their 256-6 from 44 overs before rain intervened. Chris Williams (3-38) best with the ball.

Set a revised target of 281 from 44 overs, only wicketkeeper Sam Smith (43) and captain Michael Waller (42 not out) really put up much of a fight in their 187 all out in the 44th over. Jack Laraman (3-37) shone for Lordswood.

It’s two wins in two for basement boys Holmesdale who eased past Sandwich Town.

A 59-ball 74 not out from skipper Anthony Bissett, supported by Rupert Harbig (45 off 35 balls), saw them to 258-7 in 40 overs. Zack Fagg (3-45) best with the ball for the visitors.

After a rain disruption, Sandwich were set a revised target of 259 from 40 overs and they could only make 137 all out, despite Tom Burnap’s 45 and another contribution by Ryan Davies (38).

Mike Bryant (3-20) the pick of the bowlers in an all-round effort in the field by the home team.

Hayes earned a success away to second-bottom Sevenoaks Vine.

Batting first, half-centuries from Kent’s Alex Blake (85) and wicketkeeper Gareth Severin (58) allowed Hayes to total 266-6 in 45 overs. Chris Vernon’s 3-49 from nine overs limited any further potential damage.

Sevenoaks skipper Luke Schlemmer struck 94 in their revised chase of 269 from 45 overs, but they fell 34 runs short of victory. Blake (3-40) and William MacVicar (3-54) did well for Hayes.

Third-bottom Blackheath edged past Minster by 30 runs.

Tanweer Sikandar’s 89 got the visitors to 219 all out in the 49th over, with Max Luckett (3-29) doing well for Minster.

The home side were 189 all out in reply, despite Essex player Aron Nijjar’s run-a-ball 56. Jas Bassan (3-32) the pick of the Blackheath bowlers.
