A man hit and killed by a lorry as he walked along the A2 has been named as George Mitchell.

The 21-year-old, of Kent Avenue, Canterbury, died on the evening of Tuesday, June 11 after he was struck on the London-bound carriageway between Bridge and Wincheap.

Emergency crews attempted to resuscitate Mr Mitchell, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

His death is not being treated as suspicious by Kent Police, amid claims he may have run into the road.

An inquest has now been opened and adjourned into his death and a full hearing will take place at a later date following the results of a serious accident investigation by police.
