A2 closed between Canterbury and Faversham for major road works

A section of the A2 will be closed in both directions tonight, to allow urgent resurfacing work to be carried out.

Highways England has announced the London-bound carriageway between Upper Harbledown and Brenley Corner will be closed overnight both today and tomorrow.

The coastbound carriageway from Brenley Corner to Upper Harbledown will also be closed for tonight only, from 7pm tonight until 6am tomorrow morning.

Clearly signed diversions for drivers using the London-bound carriageway will be in place, via the A28, A252 and A251 to join the M2 and reach the A2.

Signed diversions will also be in place for drivers using the coastbound carriageway, via the A299 Thanet Way, A256, and back to the A2.

Martin Crosswell, Highways England operations manager, said: “This vital work we are carrying out will improve safety and provide smoother journeys for the thousands of drivers who depend on the A2 every day. I would like to thank drivers for their patience and understanding while this urgent repair work is carried out.”

Those travelling during the closures are advised to allow plenty of extra time for their journey.
