Canterbury's Archbishop's School has followed the national trend with another record-breaking year for GCSE results.

The number of pupils at the school gaining five or more A* to C grades rose 10 per cent from last year to 63 per cent.

There was also a substantial increase in the number of A* and A grades achieved by the school’s 142 students.

Many will be staying on to sit AS and A Levels in the school’s sixth form, while others are remaining in education at other schools in the area or moving to college and vocational training.

Twins Eilish and Chloe Body were among those celebrating on Thursday morning. Between them, the sisters achieved two A*s, eight As, six Bs and four Cs and both will be returning to the Archbishop’s sixth form next month.

Head teacher Michael Liddicoate was delighted with this year’s performance.

He said: “It’s a very pleasing set of results and we’ve seen considerable improvements right across the board in all subjects.

“Everyone has worked incredibly hard and to see the improvement in both the standard and the quality of the grades is superb.

“It’s also great to see how many will be staying with us next year and I must praise the level of career advice they’ve been given to help them make choices for their future.”
