Man arrested on suspicion of assault in Littlebourne Road, Canterbury, following reports of blood-soaked man with hammer

One person has been arrested following shocking reports a man was seen wearing blood-stained clothes and wielding a hammer in Canterbury.

A post on a social media page, which has since been deleted, attracted more than 100 comments on Friday night as residents discussed the worrying incident.

This afternoon police confirmed a man was arrested in Littlebourne Road, Canterbury, just after 8.15pm on Friday.

A spokesman said officers were called to a report of an assault involving two men.

She said: "Officers attended and searched the area before arresting a man on suspicion of assault. He has been released under investigation. No life-threatening injuries were believed to have been reported."

Police declined to comment on whether a hammer was involved.
