Two charged after weapon spotted in disturbance in Sussex Avenue, Canterbury

A man and a teenager have been charged in connection with a disturbance in Canterbury.

Armed police were scrambled to the Sussex Avenue area after a weapon was reportedly spotted last Thursday.

The police helicopter was also deployed to the incident shortly before 4pm.

Lee Norton, 52, of Rutland Close, was charged on Friday with affray, assault and racially-aggravated assault.

Jobe Norton, 19, also of Rutland Close, was charged on Saturday with possession of an imitation firearm with intent, affray, using a vehicle without insurance, and driving a vehicle otherwise than in accordance with a licence.

They both appeared at Medway Magistrates’ Court on Saturday and were remanded in custody.

The case will next be heard at Canterbury Crown Court on May 11.
