The Bing strip club in Dover Street, Canterbury, eyes up new premises in the city

Strip club bosses have revealed they will appeal for an extra day and longer opening hours if they move to a new venue in the city.

The father and son operators of the Bing in Dover Street are already weighing up their options after the owners of the building applied to turn it into flats.

If permission is granted, Ralph and Alistair Noel are likely to move to a new home in the city – and have another site “not a million miles away” in mind.

Ralph refused to be drawn on its location, instead choosing to highlight the club’s impressive track record since opening amid controversy in 2013.

He says they have operated without complaint, a fact he hopes will carry sway with the city council if and when they apply for a licence for a new premises.

He said: “We have caused no problems for local residents and I hope that will be in our favour and have some clout with the council.

“I cannot say where we are hoping to move to at this stage but it’s not far away and I believe will have even less impact on residents.”

The club opens on Fridays and Saturdays until 3am, but the Noels hope to extend its hours to cope with demand.

Ralph said: “We will be applying to stay open an hour later until 4am and open three days a week, including Thursday, because we believe there is the demand for it.

“The fact is that at present we find ourselves turning people away who arrive after 11.30pm, which is the latest admission time. We reckon we are losing an extra 30% of business.

“I’m sure we will get some resistance from those who don’t like the idea of the club. But the reality has been that we haven’t caused any problems and the Bing in its current location is less noisy than the average city pub.”
