Howard Brooks charged after crash near St Lawrence Canterbury cricket ground

A man is due in court later this week after a crash near the Canterbury cricket ground which nearly halted an Ashes match.

Howard Brooks, 72, of Albermarle Road in Beckenham has been charged with causing death by careless driving after the crash on June 27 last year.

The Ashes tour opener between Kent and Australia at the St Lawrence ground was almost suspended, when the air ambulance landed to take the woman to hospital.

The crash victim was in Old Dover Road, near to Sainsbury’s, when a Mercedes C220 saloon car was said to have collided with her and several parked cars.

Two ambulance cars and two ambulances were sent to the scene.

Despite calls for the cricket game to be suspended for the air ambulance to land, she was taken by road.
