Reported tremors in Canterbury leave pictures shaking on walls

Reported tremors have been felt in Canterbury and Herne Bay today.

People took to twitter to report the rumblings, which are thought to have happened at about 11am.

Cheryl Gauden, who lives in the Canterbury, says they left her pictures shaking.

She said: “I've felt three in the space of 10 minutes.

“They shook my pictures. Normally it's kids slamming doors, but they’re not here.”

The British Geological Survey has checked its seismographs and says there has been no sign of earthquake activity in the area.

It is thought the tremors may have been sparked by explosions at the Shoeburyness barracks in Essex.

The MOD warned this week that the testing "may be noticed by communities in the vicinity of the Thames Estuary".

In May thousands of people across Kent were woken by an early-morning earthquake.

The east of the county was hit by tremors at just before 3am, but people in most parts of Kent reported feeling a rumble.

The British Geological Survey said it measured magnitude 4.2 on the Richter scale. The most serious ever recorded was 9.5.
