Driver killed in serious crash on the A299 Thanet Way near Brenley Corner

A man in his 80s suffered a cardiac arrest and died in a crash on the Thanet Way.

Police and paramedics were called to a serious collision on the London-bound carriageway of the A299 near Brenley Corner just before 2.15pm on Friday. (February 5)

The driver's damaged white van was seen up against the central reservation before screens were put up around the site by emergency services.

The man, who is from Sittingbourne, died at the scene and his next of kin have been informed.

No other vehicles were involved.

Ambulance spokesman Rich Airey said: “A car and ambulance attended the scene, later to be joined by an air ambulance and sadly despite best efforts the man died at the scene.”

The road was closed near the Dunster House log cabin site and traffic was diverted off.

The crash caused serious congestion in the surrounding roads and motorists were advised to avoid the area.
