Fifty Kent Police officers interviewed after shooting of Hersden man Marc Traylor

A man shot by police two months ago remains in a critical condition this week as it emerged that almost 50 officers have been interviewed as part of an independent probe into the incident.

The Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) launched a routine investigation when armed police entered a house at The Avenue, Hersden, in February, after concerns for the family of Marc Traylor, 40.

A 16-year-old girl suffered stab wounds after officers went into the semi-detached house.

The IPCC has spoken to 43 police officers and three civilian employees as part of the statutory investigation, which takes place when weapons are discharged.

“We had the scene examined by an independent ballistics expert and they have provided us with their report" - IPCC spokesman Neil Coyte

Spokesman Neil Coyte said: “The people interviewed were involved to some capacity in the incident have provided an account to the IPCC.

“These have been a mixture of officers’ original notes, statements and interviews conducted by the IPCC.

“We had the scene examined by an independent ballistics expert and they have provided us with their report.

“The family members present during the incident have all been interviewed.”

The IPCC has not served misconduct notices to any police employees involved.

Last month it emerged that the girl suffered multiple knife wounds after police had entered the home at just after 11pm on Sunday, February 8.

Mr Traylor was shot by an officer with a handgun, as well as being hit by a Taser and a rubber baton at 1am.

It is not known how many times he was hit, but he is still in a critical condition from his injuries.

The family have returned to the home.

It is not believed Mr Traylor, who went to the Beauherne and Chaucer schools in Canterbury, has been arrested.
