Fire on former Spires Academy site in Canterbury tackled by crews

Fire crews rushed to the Spires Academy in the early hours of this morning after a blaze broke out in its former grounds.

Crews tackled the flames as they poured from a derelict building opposite the current school site in Bredlands Lane, near Sturry.

The first 999 call was made shortly before 1am.

Two crews were at the scene for about an hour and part-demolished the building to suffocate the fire.

No one was injured, but the cause of the blaze is not yet known.
