The two men in a 15-foot speedboat were towed ashore by the Whitstable RNLI Lifeboat after it suffered engine failure while they were fishing off Herne Bay on Monday evening.

Whitstable lifeboat was launched at 5.01pm and located the vessel a ½-mile off Bishopstone between Herne Bay and Reculver.

They were landed at the harbour where the Herne Bay Coastguard were waiting to assist.

The boat's owner Trevor Batchelor from Sittingbourne and his fellow angler Michael Hedges from Meopham were both relieved to be rescued.

Mr Batchelor said “When we suffered engine failure, we called the coastguard who requested the lifeboat who were very quick to respond. Our thanks go to the RNLI and Whitstable lifeboat for their assistance and support”.
