Gas leak as major gas main pipe hit by workmen in Plucks Gutter, Stourmouth near Canterbury

Homes were evacuated this afternoon after workmen hit a major gas main pipe, causing a leak.

Fire crews rushed to Plucks Gutter in Stourmouth near Canterbury at 1.45pm, after contractors working in the area struck the main.

Police and a gas emergency team from Transco were also called to the scene.

The road between the A253 and Preston was closed for nearly two hours while the main was fixed and the area made safe.

No one was injured.
