Mum is hoping artist can create a bust of cancer victim Troy Philpott of Hersden near Canterbury

The grieving mother of a boy who died suddenly from an aggressive cancer is hoping a talented artist can help ease her pain.

Keen rugby player Troy Philpott from Hersden died in April, aged 13, a week after being diagnosed with leukaemia.

His family and friends were left heartbroken, with more than 200 mourners attending his funeral last month.

Now mum Inger, who lives in The Avenue, desperately wants something tangible to remember him by, with close friend Beth Harris suggesting a sculpture could be the answer.

“I miss his face so much. I just want something to touch every day,” Mrs Philpott said.

Mrs Harris, who grew up in Hersden, says there is some money left over from a fundraising appeal, but expensive materials like bronze are not affordable.

“I am sure it would be a way of bringing some comfort to Inger, but I am struggling to find someone to take it on,” she said.

“Canterbury is a very artistic place and I am hoping someone will come forward to take on the commission.

“They would have to work from photographs and have the talent to get a good likeness of Troy, so I know it will not be easy within our budget.

“It might sound a bit strange, but it would give Inger such comfort.”

Troy, who was nicknamed Troyboi, attended Archbishop’s School, where his cheeky personality made him popular with staff.

More outdoors than academic, he was a talented young player at Canterbury Rugby Club and a BMX racer.

Mrs Harris said: “If anyone can help and perhaps meet with us to discuss our idea, they can call me on 07789 850000 or email me at s66eth@gmail.com.”
