Man in his 20s died after being hit by a train at Canterbury East railway station

The person hit by a train and killed at Canterbury East station was a man in his 20s who lived in the city, say British Transport Police.

The tragedy happened at around 8am on Sunday and police and ambulance crews were called to the scene.

The death is not being treated as suspicious and the family of the victim have now been told of the tragedy.

Trains between Faversham and Dover Priory were delayed, as emergency services dealt with the incident.

Southeastern warned trains were likely to be cancelled, delayed, or suspended until noon and replacement buses ran between Faversham and Dover.

Services were still operating from Canterbury West, for all passengers travelling between Canterbury and London or Dover.

Just after 11am, Southeastern tweeted to say all services were set to resume as normal.
