But forensic science student Alexandra Dorrington, 29, of Kiln Court, whose own Fiesta was damaged, believes up to 10 cars were targeted in the area and police have yet to receive all the reports.

"We found the same type of rocks had been used but it is just a puzzle how nobody heard anything because there was glass everywhere," she said.

Inspector Vicki Tyler of the Canterbury Community Safety Unit said officers would be looking at CCTV and forensic opportunities as part of their investigation.

She said: "We are appealing to anyone with information about the criminal damage to contact us, and we are also urging anyone whose car was damaged to report it to us so we can build a complete picture of what happened that night."

Anyone with information is asked to phone Kent Police on 01843 222289 or Kent Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111 quoting crime reference ZY/8212/18.
