The sociology student, who was from Leicester and studying at the University of Kent, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Serious crash investigator Sergeant Jason Heather said: “Our officers are still working to identify and locate the vehicle involved, and we would like to determine what happened that night.

“We wish to thank everyone who has called us already and if there is anyone who was in the area between 1am and 2.10am and hasn’t yet spoken to an officer, we would urge them to get in touch as they could assist our investigation.

“I also appeal to local businesses, especially garage workshops and vehicle recovery firms, to keep an eye out for any vehicles they may have seen over the past few weeks with front-end damage to their bodywork.”

Anyone with information should call 01622 798538, quoting AW-DW 216-17.
