A 22-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of drink driving this morning following a collision on the A28 Sturry Road in Canterbury which brought down a telegraph pole.

Police were called to the scene between Vauxhall Road and Old Park Avenue at 5.16am and found a van had hit the pole which was lying across the road.

They closed the section between the roundabout at Asda and Vauxhall Avenue so the pole and wires could be removed and traffic was diverted via Broad Oak Road. Motorists were advised to avoid the area.

A police spokesman said the van driver was uninjured and the road was re-opened at 10.50am
