Police close Whitstable Road, Canterbury and ambulance crews treat woman who crashed her car

A woman has died at the scene of a serious accident just hours into the New Year.

The 80-year-old from Ashford was driving a white Volkswagen Polo along Whitstable Road towards St Thomas Hill in Canterbury, close to its junction with Westgate Court Avenue, when it hit a parked silver Mercedes A170.

Police shut the road between Westgate Court Avenue and Clifton Gardens at 7.42am while they examined the scene. The road reopened at about 10.30am.

Neighbours say they heard a loud bang and looked out of their windows to see that the hatchback had gone into the back of the parked car.

Investigators made door-to-door inquiries and would like to speak to anyone who may have seen the vehicle before the collision and the collision itself.
